Akagera and Volcanoes National Park Safaris
Day 1: Helicopter Flight to Akagera & Lake Ihema Boat Cruise
Your safari begins in Kigali, where your driver-guide will brief you before transferring you to the helipad. Enjoy a scenic helicopter flight to Akagera National Park, with stunning aerial views along the way.
Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your lodge for check-in and lunch. In the afternoon, head to Lake Ihema for a relaxing boat cruise. Spot hippos, crocodiles, aquatic birds, and lush lakeside vegetation as you unwind on the water.
Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay inside the park.
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Akagera National Park
After an early breakfast, set out with a packed lunch for a full-day game drive across Akagera’s savannah plains and woodlands. This is your best chance to encounter the Big Five, along with giraffes, zebras, antelopes, hyenas, and many bird species.
Enjoy lunch in the bush before continuing wildlife viewing. Later in the afternoon, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight rest.
Day 3: Helicopter Flight to Volcanoes National Park & Dian Fossey Museum
Enjoy breakfast before checking out and transferring to the airstrip for your helicopter flight to Musanze, near Volcanoes National Park. The flight offers spectacular views of Rwanda’s hills and volcanoes.
On arrival, your driver will take you to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, visit the Dian Fossey Museum, where you will learn about gorilla conservation, Dian Fossey’s legacy, and ongoing research in the Virunga region.
Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking & Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village
After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. Accompanied by expert rangers, hike into the forest to track a habituated mountain gorilla family.
Once located, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing and photographing the gorillas in their natural habitat.
Return to your lodge for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for an immersive cultural experience featuring traditional dances, storytelling, local crafts, and insights into Rwandan daily life.
Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 5: Golden Monkey Trekking & Leisure Time
After breakfast, return to Volcanoes National Park for golden monkey trekking. Follow rangers through the bamboo forest to observe these energetic primates as they feed and play.
After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch. Spend the rest of the day at leisure—relax by the pool, enjoy the lodge views, or unwind with sundowners.
Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Helicopter Flight Back to Kigali
Enjoy your final breakfast before checking out and transferring to Musanze airstrip. Board your helicopter flight back to Kigali International Airport, enjoying one last aerial view of Rwanda.
Upon arrival, a representative will assist you with onward arrangements, marking the end of your 6-day Akagera & Volcanoes National Park helicopter safari.
